The origin of the development of the Feldenkrais method

Origin of development

The founder of the Feldenkrais method is Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984), who was born in what is now the Republic of Ukraine. He is a Ph.D. in physics, a judo expert, a mechanical engineer and an educator. He suffered a serious knee injury in a football accident when he was young. Years later, he accidentally injured his knee again while working on a submarine. Because doctors at the time said the success rate of surgical treatment was only 50%, he did not undergo the surgery. As a scientist, he began to combine his majors and research in various fields, such as mechanical engineering, judo, physics, anatomy, biology, physiology, kinesiology, neurology, psychology, child development and anthropology, etc. , experiment with your own body movements and re-explore the use and function of your knees. In this way, he learned how to use his nervous system to release chronically tight, overused muscle patterns and reawaken underused muscles. As a result of these experiments, he not only no longer felt pain and pressure in his knee joints when walking, but also improved his posture and breathing.

So Dr. Feldenkrais began to use his experience to help people in need overcome various discomforts and difficulties, including David Ben Gurion, the then founding Prime Minister of Israel. When more and more people benefited, he also began to formally and publicly teach his method, which is now known as the Feldenkrais method.
